James Verdon works primarily with digital video and lighting
technologies for gallery and museum installations, and for
video within live performance.
His work is currently concerned with formal properties of
the electronic viewing screen such as the frame, scale, and
the idea of re-presentation, and also with the place of the
spectator in creating narratives with screen based installation
works.
James is Convenor of Electronic Design and Interactive Media
(EDIM) in the Arts Department at Swinburne University of Technology
in Melbourne but this year he is artist in residence at the
Australia Council for the Arts Studio in Takadanobaba in Tokyo,
and then the artist in residence at the College of Fine Arts,
Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok. This residency is part
of a program with Asialink and the Australian Network for
Art and Technology (ANAT).
He has a strong interest in Australia's cultural position
within Asia, particularly in relation to new and emerging
media arts.
